I attended a mental health conference this past weekend and one session focused on couples counseling using movie metaphors. The presenter used this quote from the movie “Shall We Dance?” (spoken by Susan Sarandon) and I loved it as it is so poignant about marriage.
“We need a witness to our lives. There’s a billion people on the planet….I mean what does any one life mean? But in a marriage, you’re promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things…all of it, all of the time, every day. You’re saying your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go unwitnessed because I will be your witness.”
I love working with couples to strengthen their marriages. If your marriage needs a tune-up (or even an overhaul), give me a call. Jane McGill Clinical Counseling. 720-707-9119 www.janemcgillcounseling.com
